Colchester Gateway Clubs are...

an independent local charity, providing social clubs and activities for adults with learning disabilities.

The main aim of our clubs is for people to enjoy themselves in a relaxed atmosphere.

Our aims and objectives...

The Charity is established to enable people with learning disabilities to access leisure and social activities in the community and the opportunities for personal development including self advocacy.

The Charity campaigns for and with people with learning disabilities for the rights of people with learning disabilities and works with other organisations and groups for the benefit of people with learning disabilities.

Colchester Gateway Clubs actively promote campaigns that are important for, people with a learning disability. In addition, service navigation, referral and advocacy is available where appropriate.

These objects are supported by entrance fees, donations and fundraising activities. The Charity employs professional staff who carry out the week to week running of the clubs.

Ideas from within...

The club has its own members committee who meet monthly and act as a forum for people to voice their opinions. The committee is dedicated to developing the club, around the club they can be identified by their red T-shirts and are available to talk and advise anyone about club activities.

From quiet beginnings, the committee have grown in confidence and influence. They assist staff on reception, they have managed fund raising projects and recently organised and commissioned a promotional calendar for 2013.
