Our Advocacy and Support Service
Our Advocacy and Support Service
At Colchester Gateway, our Advocacy and Support Service is dedicated to helping people with learning disabilities live more independent, informed, and fulfilling lives. We also provide support to families, carers, and those who play an important role in a person’s life.
We understand that navigating services, understanding information, and making important decisions can sometimes feel overwhelming. Our experienced team is here to provide guidance, practical support, and advocacy, ensuring that people have the information, confidence, and support they need to make their own choices and have their voices heard.
Our service can support with:
- Accessing health and social care services
- Care planning, assessments, reviews, and transitions
- Housing applications and tenancy issues
- Benefits advice, appeals, and financial matters
- Complaints and resolving concerns with services
- Legal matters and support when engaging with the police or other agencies
- Understanding rights, options, and available services
As advocates, we help people express their views, wishes, and feelings, ensuring they are actively involved in decisions that affect their lives. We work alongside individuals, empowering them to speak up for themselves wherever possible, while providing representation when additional support is needed.
We can provide support through home visits, telephone calls, video meetings, email, or face-to-face appointments, depending on individual needs and preferences.
Our Advocacy and Support Service is free of charge, person-centred, and available for as long as support is needed. We are committed to helping people with learning disabilities across Colchester and the surrounding areas access the opportunities, services, and support they deserve.
